چکیده

The software-defined networking paradigm introduces interesting opportunities to operate networks in a more flexible yet formally verifiable manner. Despite the logically centralized control, however, a Software-Defined Network (SDN) is still a distributed system, with inherent delays between the switches and the controller. Especially the problem of changing network configurations in a consistent manner, also known as the consistent network update problem, has received much attention over the last years. This paper revisits the problem of how to update an SDN in a transiently consistent, loop-free manner. First, we rigorously prove that computing a maximum (“greedy”) loop-free network update is generally NP-hard; this result has implications for the classic maximum acyclic subgraph problem (the dual feedback arc set problem) as well. Second, we show that for special problem instances, fast and good approximation

A Distributed SDN Control Plane for Consistent Policy Updates

Software-defined networking (SDN) is a novel paradigm that out-sources the control of packet-forwarding switches to a set of software controllers. The most fundamental task of these controllers is the correct implementation of the network policy, i.e., the intended network behavior. In essence, such a policy specifies the rules by which packets must be forwarded across the network. This paper i...

Inter - Flow Consistency : Novel Sdn Update

Software Defined Networks (SDN) are opening a new era in the world of networking by decoupling the data plane and control plane. With the centralized control plane, updating the networks becomes much more convenient to the network operators. However, due to the distributed nature of the data plane, people fail to avoid transitional states of SDN during network updates. The transitional states m...

SCL: Simplifying Distributed SDN Control Planes

We consider the following question: what consistency model is appropriate for coordinating the actions of a replicated set of SDN controllers? We first argue that the conventional requirement of strong consistency, typically achieved through the use of Paxos or other consensus algorithms, is conceptually unnecessary to handle unplanned network updates. We present an alternate approach, based on...

Group Centrality Maximization via Network Design

Network centrality plays an important role in many applications. Central nodes in social networks can be influential, driving opinions and spreading news or rumors. In hyperlinked environments, such as the Web, where users navigate via clicks, central content receives high traffic, becoming target for advertising campaigns. While there is an extensive amount of work on centrality measures and t...
